Special Tool Needed: Rivet Nut setter
We recommend this one, or similar ones: https://www.amazon.com/RZX-Riveter-Riveting-Setting-mandrels/dp/B07P7M4BKF
Beware of “Automatic” riveters that may damage the rivet nuts.
Manual tools like the one we recommend can do the job quickly and effectively.
Pull the door handle to reveal a philips screw. Remove this screw.
Remove the door handle trim piece.
Remove these 6 screws and remove the speaker grille.
Remove these 4 screws
Remove these 8 screws
Unplug the subwoofer and remove it.
Use a trim tool to pry away the door panel. It is held in by plastic clips
Breaking some of these clips is almost inevitable. Pull them out with pliers.
These are the mounting locations we will use.
Remove the plastic inserts at the locations specified above. Use pliers to grab the edge of the insert, twist and push it inward.
These are the mounting locations we will use
Remove any plastic inserts in these locations.
Remove this screw. We will use this as a mounting location too.
NO rivet nut is needed in this location. Do not drill this hole
Remove this door handle mount, if you have it.
Drill the mounting holes with a 9mm drill bit (provided).
Assemble your rivet nut setter with an M6 mandrel. Check your tool’s instructions for correctly setting the stroke length. So you are sure to apply the correct pressure.
Install the rivet nuts.
Examine the table. Cut out the tabs for the door handle cut-out you need. One is meant for Discovery 2, one is for Discovery 1. Remove the cut-out for the one that matches your vehicle
The square holes are specific to the D1 only. The hexagonal holes are for the D2 only. The rest of the holes are common to both.
Hang the table to the door.
This is easier if you have another person help you hold the table while you thread in the top middle bolt. But it can be done by one determined person. While holding the table with one arm, or using a knee to prop it up, thread in the top middle bolt by hand.
It is safe to let go with just one bolt threaded in.
Install the remaining mounting bolts & washers.
Lift the table up while threading in the rest of the bolts so you don’t damage the bolt threads. If you damage the threads, the bolt could get jammed in the rivet nut, and cause it to spin out. The bolts should thread smoothly all the way in by hand.
Snug up the bolts with a 10mm. Do not overtighten and risk spinning the rivet nuts.
Install the bumpers at these locations, using the bumper bolts (socket head).
Do not tighten much, it will squish the bumpers.
Reinstall the door handle trim, and reinstall the screw.
In case of emergency, the table can be partially opened from inside just enough to access this handle.
Install the latches as shown with the 4 M4 screws provided.
Recommended: add a little bit of threadlocker (provided) to these screws.
Install the latch pins using two philips screws and the provided 10-32 screws.
Recommended: add a little bit of threadlocker (provided) to these screws.
Done!
