Which Alternator?
Any GM alternator that normally fits a 5.3L should work. They have a 5.46" bolt spacing. Examples:
⚠️ If you are upgrading to anything higher than 150A, make sure to also upgrade the 150A alternator fuse in the fuse box. Also make sure all the wires between the alternator and the battery are thick enough gauge to handle the extra amps.
Gather all your parts. Both brackets are the same.
Grab one of the brackets, two M10x85mm bolts, two washers, and two 2.442" tubes (the longer ones)
Put a washer on each bolt, insert the bolts in the holes shown, and place the tubes over the bolts.
Thread the two bolts into the cylinder head as shown. Do not fully tighten.
Remove the bolt that was provided with the tensioner. We will not be using it.
Place the tensioner spacer on the tensioner.
Grab the M10x190mm bolt (longest one), and a washer. Put the washer on the bolt, and insert the bolt into the tensioner.
Insert the bolt into the bracket in the hole shown.
Grab a 2" tube (shorter one) and put it over the bolt.
Insert the bolt into the same hole on the other bracket.
Add the final 2.442" tube over the bolt before threading it into the cylinder head.
Remove the bolt from the idler pulley. You might have to tap it with a hammer. We will not be using this bolt.
Grab the M10x120mm bolt and a washer. Insert the bolt into the idler.
Slide the thick spacer onto the bolt.
Insert the bolt through both brackets in the holes shown. Sandwich a 2" tube between the brackets as shown.
Add a washer and lock nut at the other end.
Install the alternator using two M10x85mm bolts, 4 washers, and 2 locking nuts.
Tighten everything down and you're done!
You can use the M8 bolt provided to secure your ground cable to the alternator bracket here!
