Which power steering pump?
Use a standard GM Type II power steering pump, such as one from an early 2000s Corvette. Do not get a special one with AN fittings on. This bracket places the pump in such a way that you can attach both Land Rover power steering hoses directly. No adapters needed!
For example, this new Lares pump will fit. You will also need a power steering pulley and an installation tool.
Install the coil relocation bracket on the left side of the engine (USA driver side).
Use the 3 M6 Bolts.
Cut off the leg sticking out of the coil bracket.
Install the coils to the standoffs using the 3 10-32 bolts.
Sort your tubes by size. There should be 3 of the longest ones.
Attach the back bracket to the cylinder head as shown. Use the single M10x18mm bolt and a washer in the lowest hole.
Grab 3 M10x120mm bolts, add a washer to each, and insert them into the holes shown.
Slide the 3 longest tubes onto the bolts.
Screw in the 3 bolts through the back bracket and into the cylinder head. Do not fully tighten yet.
Grab the shortest tube (2.040") and wedge it into the back bracket as shown.
Grab the second shortest tube (3.154") and wedge it into the AC compressor bracket as shown.
Grab the M10x180mm bolt, add a washer to it. The insert it through the front bracket, through the tube in the AC compressor bracket, and through the tube in the back bracket. As shown.
Grab the last M10x120mm bolt, add a washer to it. Insert it through the front bracket, through the AC bracket, add the remaining 3.404" tube and then go through the back bracket.
Grab the last M10x120mm bolt, add a washer to it. Insert it through the front bracket, through the AC bracket, add the remaining 3.404" tube and then go through the back bracket.
Make sure everything is lining up on the same plane.
Then tighten everything down.
Then tighten everything down.
Use a 15mm stocket to isntall the smooth idler pullet to the front bracket. Careful! Do not over tighten on the soft aluminum threads.
Grab your power steering pump and the M8x30mm bolt. Use it to install the power steering pump in place.
Grab 2 M8x80mm bolts, 4 M8 washers and 2 M8 lock nuts.
Use them to secure the pump in the two remaining through holes.
Grab 2 M8x80mm bolts, 4 M8 washers and 2 M8 lock nuts.
Use them to secure the pump in the two remaining through holes.
Time to install the pulley. Get your install tool. Install the pulley until the shaft is flush with the pulley flange.
⚠️Make sure to install the pulley the right way, with the flange facing outward! If you get it wrong it will be very difficult to remove.
If you left you AC compressor connected in the engine bay (like we did) then the next steps can be performed once your engine is installed in place.
Check and make sure the original dowel pins are installed on the AC compressor. If not, check the original AC compressor mount in case they stayed back there.
When installing the AC compressor onto the bracket, make sure the two dowels slot into the holes properly. Tap lightly if needed.
Install two M8x90mm Bolts and two M8 washers to the rear of the AC compressor. No nuts needed, the rear of the bracket has captive nuts pre-installed.
Use the same bolts and washers in the front, but you will have to add M8 locknuts. Don't worry about using washers on the nut side (too difficult)
The belt you will use has 6 ribs, but the AC compressor pulley has 7 ribs. Install the belt on the 6 frontmost ribs as shown.
For the powersteering pump, your Land Rover return hose and high pressure fitting will fit right in! No adapters needed.
Finally, use the donut provided to help curve the AC hose without kinking. Use 3 zip ties to keep it in place.
